LYNNWOOD, Wash. All lanes of northbound Interstate 5 in Lynnwood are reopened tonight after a crash that hospitalized two teenagers.

The state Department of Transportation says I-5's two left lanes were closed for several hours beginning at 4:40 p.m. after a 17-year-old driver lost control of his SUV and it flipped several times.

The accident resulted in traffic being backed up into Seattle.

Thaksin party 'can form alliance'

The PPP, allied to ex-PM Thaksin Shinawatra, did not gain enough seats in Sunday's poll to rule outright.

The rival Democrat party still hopes it can form its own coalition and keep the PPP out of power.

According to unofficial election results, the PPP won 232 seats in Sunday's poll, while the Democrats won 165.

The PPP needs to gain at least nine more seats if it is to take office.

However, BBC correspondents in Bangkok say the political landscape is still uncertain.

More negotiations are likely in the coming weeks and smaller parties may come under pressure from the military not to form a coalition with PPP.

Vote investigations

Surapong Suebwonglee, secretary general of the PPP, told a press conference in Bangkok: "Other parties have agreed to join a coalition, which would give us more than half of the seats in parliament."

Three years later, Backman still trying to get to the bigs

There is a seafarer's look to the man; one too many days engulfed by the salty air.

In the two years following the Diamondbacks debacle, Backman dabbled in this and that -- a fruitless search for fulfillment. Baseball? Who needed baseball? Wally and his brother Mike chartered fishing trips. Wally opened up Prineville's first authentic deli, the New York on Seventh Street Caf, and worked as its chef (the business didn't last). He went on dozens of hunting excursions.

Mostly, though, he subconsciously waited. And waited. And waited. In his first season as a manager, with Catskill of the Northern League in 1997, Backman went 3-23. That was an aberration. In the six ensuing years, he suffered one losing campaign. After guiding the Lancaster JetHawks to an 86-54 record in 2004, managing future major leaguers including Conor Jackson, Carlos Quentin and Dan Uggla, he was named The Sporting News' minor league manager of the year.

Illinois Employment Report: Employee Confidence Index Slightly ...

The Illinois Employee Confidence Index declined 0.3 points to 49.7 in January, according to the latest Spherion(R) Employment Report. The monthly survey of Illinois workers, conducted by Harris Interactive(R) on behalf of Spherion Corporation, indicates that more workers are concerned about the economy. However, the survey also shows that workers are more confident in the future of their employer.

"From month to month Illinois has remained a stable market for job seekers, despite widespread economic concerns. Although there was a small decrease in the Confidence Index in January, job seekers looking for employment throughout the state are not having experiences that reflect this," explained Jodie Wood, regional director of Spherion Staffing Services in Illinois.

A Year In Tara

The Housing (Miscellaneous Provisions) 2002 Act allowed Gardai and contractors sweeping powers in relation to protest (including impounding of vehicles). **and the SIB finished the thing off , by allowing for a re-structuring of the Irish courts and Planning System which reduces citizen say and ameliorates the crony developer role. It could be called a charter for corruption. Tara was left unprotected by Irish law and the Protestors faced into criminalisation and violence for highlighting the abuse of office by the named TD's. The 11 protestors are facing court again on January the 21st 2008 and the usual support is welcomed. John Gormley took up the revolving Environment Chair and will probably work hard with Roche on Lisbon as well. He has refused to meet with the protestors nor to listen to the EU who have accused the Irish of Breach- his response:- "My Hands are tied".

Controversy Over Northwestern Journo Dean's 'Unnamed Sources'

The dean of journalism at Northwestern University seems to have gotten himself in a bit of a sticky wicket, as it were. Apparently, John Lavine, the dean of the Medill School of Journalism, has been indulging in the use of unattributed and unnamed sources in his columns for the Medill alumni magazine and 16 NU journo instructors aren't very happy about it. Not only are they not happy about it, but according to the Chicago Tribune they are demanding that the dean prove that he didn't make his quotes up out of whole cloth.

You know the journalist's favorite source, don't you? It's the "unnamed source," the "anonymous quote" and the famed "deep throat" sources that journalists make out to be "protecting" from discovery. This sort of source has a long history in the kind of journalism of whistleblowers or muckrakers that have been increasingly popular since Watergate.
